Adam Billings

From Water Technician to Trainee Regional Surveyor

For Adam Billings, joining Trinity was more than just a new job; it was a complete career shift. “I wanted a change, something forward-thinking,” Adam explains. After years of working in a small building business and doing contracting work, he stumbled across a role at Trinity First Response. “I kept refreshing the advert, not sure if I was ready to leave self-employment behind. I 'ummed' and 'ahhed' for weeks… but I’m so glad I followed up – it was the right decision.”

Beginning his journey

Adam began his journey with Trinity in October 2022 as a Water Technician, progressing quickly to Senior Technician, and then to Team Leader. “I loved getting stuck into first response work and seeing the direct impact on policyholders. It really motivated me.”

Before joining Trinity, Adam had a short stint at an insurance brokerage, but most of his career was hands-on and practical. “I left school at 15, to learn a trade but later returned to complete my GCSEs. I’ve always been more of a practical learner.”

His practical mindset and determination helped him thrive at Trinity. On 1st March, Adam stepped into his current role as a Trainee Regional Surveyor – a long-term goal of his. “It’s the direction I’ve wanted to go in from day one. The amount of training and development support from both TFR and Trinity has been incredible – I’ve gained multiple certifications and even completed the Management Development Programme with Louise Kelly.”

Facing Challenges

Adam’s journey hasn’t been without challenges. “Surges in the industry were tough, especially while I was at TFR. But I got through them by sticking to our values, staying resilient, and working together as a team.”

When asked what he enjoys most about working here, Adam is quick to praise the supportive culture and development focus. “You’re never left to your own devices, there’s always opportunity to grow. I’ve not just grown professionally, but personally as well.”

Putting the work in

His advice to anyone considering a similar path? “You get out what you put in – take the opportunities, or you’ll miss them. Hard work really does pay off.”

Adam credits his success to four mentors who supported him along the way: Tom Hewitt, James Kinsey, Des Dehsi, and Tom Harris. “Each of them has played a part in my development, and I’m grateful for that.”

And outside of work? “I’m a massive dog dad,” Adam laughs – just another reason his story is so relatable, grounded, and inspiring.
